Youth Protesters Clash with Police at Delhi's Jantar Mantar Over Exam Leaks
Thousands of youth protesters gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday, demanding accountability over alleged examination paper leaks and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration escalated into clashes after protesters attempted to march toward Parliament despite police denying permission for the procession.
Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel stopped demonstrators near Jantar Mantar, using barricades, batons, and tear gas to disperse the crowd after protesters tried to breach security restrictions in the high-security area during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Authorities said the march was unauthorized and warned that legal action would be taken against those violating prohibitory orders.
The protest was driven by widespread anger over recent exam paper leak allegations, particularly concerning national entrance examinations. Activists and student groups argued that repeated leaks have undermined the future of millions of aspirants. Prominent education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has also backed the movement, staging a hunger strike in solidarity with students and urging greater transparency and accountability from the government.
Government officials have maintained that security measures were necessary to preserve law and order around Parliament. Meanwhile, opposition leaders and protest organizers criticized the police response, alleging excessive use of force against peaceful demonstrators. The incident has intensified the national debate over examination reforms, youth unemployment, and government accountability.
