CM Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' controversy grows after minister attends screening with kids despite the film carrying an 'A' certificate
A fresh controversy has emerged around "Jana Nayagan", Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's latest film, after a state minister was seen attending a screening with children despite the movie carrying an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The incident has triggered debate on social media and among political observers.
The controversy stems from visuals showing the minister entering a theatre accompanied by minors. Under CBFC rules, an 'A' certificate means the film is intended only for viewers aged 18 years and above, and children are not permitted to watch it in cinemas. Critics have questioned whether public officials should set an example by adhering to the certification guidelines.
The issue comes shortly after the makers themselves expressed disappointment over the film receiving an 'A' certificate. Producer Venkat K. Narayana had said they had hoped for a U/A rating because the film was intended for family audiences and carries a message on girl-child empowerment.
As of the latest reports, there has been no official response from the minister regarding the criticism, and no confirmation of any action by authorities over the screening.
