Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) is the latest romantic drama starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Krithi Shetty, directed by Vignesh Shivan. Set in a futuristic world, the film released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu with a unique concept. But does it deliver on its promise? Let’s find out.

Story:

Set in the year 2040, the world runs on a powerful app called Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), which decides who people should fall in love with and when they should break up.

Dheema (Krithi Shetty) is someone who completely trusts the app and follows its instructions without question. On the other hand, Vibe Vaasu (Pradeep Ranganathan), who comes from a phone-free “Organic World” and works as the voice behind the app, falls for Dheema at first sight.

As their love story begins, things take a dramatic turn when the app’s “Love Score” feature interferes. Believing the app’s judgment, Dheema walks away from Vaasu. This pushes him to prove that love can’t be measured by technology. What follows is his journey to fight the system and win her back.

Plus Points:

The film starts off with a refreshing concept, exploring love in a tech-controlled future. It sets up an interesting base for a modern romantic drama, even though it doesn’t dive too deep into the idea.

Pradeep Ranganathan delivers a performance that fits the role, though it doesn’t have the same spark as his earlier films. Krithi Shetty gets limited scope, which restricts her impact.

The real scene-stealer here is S.J. Suryah, who brings energy and entertainment with his quirky villainous role. His presence adds some much-needed life to the film.

Minus Points:

While the idea sounds exciting on paper, the execution doesn’t quite match up. The futuristic setting feels underwhelming, as it resembles present-day life more than a believable 2040 world. Even the “Organic World” doesn’t feel convincing and comes across as artificial.

Pradeep Ranganathan is decent but misses his usual charm, while Krithi Shetty feels miscast and doesn’t get enough depth to showcase her talent.

The biggest drawback is the lack of emotional connection between the lead pair. Since the film revolves around love, this weak emotional core significantly affects the overall impact.

The comedy also fails to land. Despite having talented actors like Yogi Babu, the humour feels forced and underutilised, leaving very few genuinely fun moments.

On top of that, the film lacks a standout scene that keeps you hooked. With both emotions and comedy falling flat, the narrative feels dull and struggles to engage.

Technical Aspects:

Director Vignesh Shivan comes up with a promising concept, but the screenplay doesn’t do justice to it. The storytelling lacks depth and consistency, making it hard to stay invested.

Anirudh Ravichander’s music is surprisingly underwhelming, with songs that fail to leave a lasting impression. The background score doesn’t elevate key moments either.

Editing by Pradeep E Ragav is another weak point, as the film feels stretched with noticeable lag. Several scenes could have been trimmed for a tighter narrative.

Ravi Varman’s cinematography is decent but doesn’t fully capture or sell the futuristic setting as effectively as expected.

Verdict:

Overall, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) has an interesting futuristic idea but falters in execution. Pradeep Ranganathan is okay in his role, while Krithi Shetty feels miscast.

With weak emotional depth, ineffective comedy, and slow pacing, the film struggles to keep the audience engaged. Despite its high-concept premise, it ends up being an underwhelming watch that never fully realizes its potential.
